I will never master anything. Not art, not parenting, not a damn thing. Life would become boring if mastery were my only goal, and what I attained. I think many put mastery and success together. That's not where success lives. It lives in love, honesty, and the process. It lives in exploration and experimentation.
Recently I have been enjoying the process of creating with charcoals. A medium so simple and natural that you can find it after a campfire has burned out. No need for fancy supplies, just somehting that nature has been giving us since the dawn of the first fire. I have never been fond of drawing, but I think I have finally found a way to fall in love with it. Charcoals don't always have to be so precise and they can be as messy as I would like them to be. I like to be messy. It makes me feel that work is getting done.
I'm excited for 2017 and for all that I will create this year. Especially with what comes from working with charcoals more. I'm finding a rythym while enjoying the process along the way. It's going to be a good year.
