This week's Creative Mother is NJ artist Theresa Losa. I love her work and love seeing the way our area inspires her work. Thank you Theresa for sharing your work and insights! I hope to get to see your work in person soon.
Where can we find your work & connect with you?
You can find my work at theresalosaart.com and Instagram. I am also in some shops and gallery's along the coast Noon Design shop in Bay Head NJ, Main Street Gallery in Manasquan NJ, Common Wealth shop in Spring Lake and Artifacts in Beach Haven NJ. I will be doing some Art Pop ups along the Jersey Shore also in Montauk NY and Mystic Connecticut this Summer.
Describe your art and creative process.
My art is modern Impressionism with a folk twist it has a fun
whimsical feel that overall gives a sense of joy. I love working on many paintings at once so that I am able to see the colors move. I am a fast painter so I like to use Acrylic Paint because it drys fast. I try not to think to much about the details
of what I am painting but rather on the movement, flow and color.
What's a positive way that your creativity has changed since you became a parent?
Becoming a parent has become one of the greatest joys I feel truly blessed.
My children inspire me in so many ways especially in their own fearless art!
My oldest step daughter Hannah (17) is super stylish and sweet I definitely think
about her when I'm painting my beach people chicks! I have 3 boys Levi(8),
Caleb(6) and Jude(4) they are non stop action they come in and out of my studio
always making comments on my paintings and I love it! They really love when I do
nude beaches they think it is soooo funny;). We also have a new baby sister Grace(6m) She's a little angel who inspires pops of pink!
When are you most productive & what helps keep you creating?
I am most productive in the day not to early need my juice, pancakes and coffee
first. My 90+ nana who is also an artist helps with the kids so I can go into my studio or they come in with me. It's also been a great blessing that my husband works from home helping with kids and also frames all of my paintings. I feel that it is so important to have a creative outlet the regular routine of life can way me down so being able to make and to explore that creativity keeps it going.
What inspires your work the most?
The beach is a huge inspiration it has always been my happy place. I am also inspired by all things design from wallpaper, textiles, interior design, photograph, music and fashion.
Parents have challenges and other schedules to think about. What are some ways you make sure you give your art the time it needs?
It is pretty much non stop once you become a parent I try to pick days that most of my children are in school to paint. They are only young for a short period so I never want to feel like I am putting them aside for my art. It is also wonderful to have a studio at my home when production is not to crazy the kids are painting with me or playing.
Name a creative mother or father who inspires you and why.
I have many friends who also are mothers and artists they inspire me daily in all the ways they find balance. Maie Vaga super mom + business owner and designer of Noon Desgins, noondesignshop.com. Alaxandra Vaga another super mom and amazing potter of Source & Tradition, Sourceandtradition.com. Elisabeth Sabine also an incredible mom and Artist/Painter, elizabethsabineart.com. You can also find all of these lovely ladies on Instagram ;)
I'm no longer doing Creative Mothers interview, but this will remain as an archive. Thank you for all of the love!
About the Series
Let's face it, being a mother can be the most challenging, and the most rewarding thing. Being a mother who needs to be creative can be even more challenging, it can even feel lonely at times.
So let's dig deeper into the lives of creative mothers, share their amazing work, and get some insight into creating while parenting. Hopefully, inspiring other artistic, creative mothers, and women who may one day be mothers themselves, along the way.
